As I look at people's list of potential temple sites I notice how few are selecting sites in the US and Canada. It makes sense, of course, as the entire country is now dotted with temples. So my question is this: is this slowdown in temples construction in the US and Canada permanent? Would it even be possible to create a "top ten" list of sites in the US?

I could create a top ten list, but I can only come up with 8 that I consider likely to be announced in the next 5 years. I think the slowdown is permanent but the current 4-year hiatus in announcements for the US and Canada is somewhat strange. If it continues, I'll have to conclude that it reflects a deliberate decision not to build more here for a while, whatever the reason. In which case, my list goes out the window.

I was thinking about that this morning on my way in to work. The last US temple was announced in April 2013 for Cedar City. If you look outside the "Mormon stronghold" (Utah, Idaho, Arizona) It would be the Star Valley Temple in October 2011.

Hey, guys! I know that the United States is growing very well in some places, but is stagnating in others. With that in mind, I feel safe in predicting that at least one temple announced next month will be for the United States. I have mentioned in another thread where the Church was growing the fastest in the US as of 2012. Further research pointed me to an article in the Salt Lake Tribune from this year saying that Church growth has stagnated somewhat in the United States, which is likely why none of the temples announced in the last two years have been for within the United States. And that is a sign that the Church is growing well elsewhere in the world. Rather than being discouraging, this encourages me. Interestingly enough, the article in question quotes Matthew Martinich, who does so well in updating the LDS Church Growth Blog upon which this forum has been based. I would invite you all to read that article. It is a great read. I have hopes that at least one (and possibly more) temples are announced in the United States in a month, but it's not a deal-breaker if it doesn't happen. The fact that the Church is growing elsewhere in the world, and that is great. We are no longer the Utah or even US Church which we started as. The gospel knows no boundaries. And that is wonderful to think about it. A link to the article in question follows. Enjoy! www.sltrib.com/home/4776326-155/mormon-growth-slowing-dramatically-in-us
